Getting in Touch with my DisneySide

DisneySide @ Home Celebration

Before Christmas, I filled out a survey related to our family’s interest in Disney.  It asked questions like how did we show our DisneySide.  I thought some of the questions were a little out there and believe I even responded saying that I did have a DisneySide, whatever a DisneySide was.  Oh how wrong I was!
After Christmas, I received an email telling me that I had been selected to host a a Disney Side @Home Celebration.  If memory is correct, only six hundred were selected to receive the party kits and thousands had applied.   How in the world did I make the cut?  I honestly have no idea, but I’m thrilled because I found that I really did have a DisneySide buried deep down inside.

A special Facebook group was created for party hosts to collaborate with one another and the folks organizing the a Disney Side @Home Celebrations.  Upon joining this group, I decided that I was way out of my element.  Some of the other hosts have their entire homes decorated with Disney decor.  At the time, I couldn’t even think of a single Disney item in my entire house.  I felt like the kid who dressed from Goodwill discards when all the rest were shopping at the high price department stores.

I avoided the group for a few days.  It helped that overwhelmed feeling I had gotten when I felt so out of place.  Then people started posting about receiving their party kits.  The excitement started to build.  I took a sneak peak at another person’s kit picture and I was excited, for sure.

DisneySide Kit

There was no doubt who or what the box was for when I opened the door and found it sitting there, waiting to be opened and enjoyed.

Then a few days later, my kit arrived.  I was over the moon!  I couldn’t believe all of the goodies I found underneath that bright blue bumper sticker.

…and then my DisneySide was unleashed!

  1. So glad you are doing this with us!!!!! It is going to be great!

  2. I came over from the #DisneySide FB group. I hosted my party on Feb. 16 and it was low-key. It was nowhere in comparison to the extravagance of some other parties. Regardless, me and my guests had a good time and we enjoyed unleashing our DisneySide that day. Just relax and have fun at your party.

    • I’m with Terra on this one. We have Disney things, but we are by no means covered up in it. I’m just going to have some fun games and foods and let everyone enjoy themselves for a day. Isn’t that really what DisneySide is supposed to be about anyway? Having fun in a getaway? 🙂 Cheers to you!

  3. What a great post.
All my kids are in their 20’s and although we are HUGE Disney fans, I was a little intimated by all the MAJOR parties people were having too. My oldest and I are having a Girls Night Out – You Never To Old For Disney Party with our friends. It’s this upcoming Friday and we are just doing simple stuff.
Not matter what you choose, just have fun with it.. that’s what Disney is all about.
    Thanks for the great post!

  4. I’m sorry you felt so overwhelmed…and glad, in a way, that I’m not the only one. I was not only shocked I was chosen, but it happened after losing my blog email, so I had no clue until it all showed up on my porch. Talk about a surprise! And then I was sick for an entire month, had no clue what I was doing, or when I was supposed to host my party, and couldn’t figure out who or how to get ahold of anyone…and here we are. I have no idea what to do at my party because my daughter is not-quite 2, and all of our child friends are too young for the games included. I can’t afford to do a theme, so I’m working with what was provided (which is great, don’t get me wrong)…and I just don’t know what to do. Gotta figure it out, though!!
