Gender Reveal Ideas

Gender Reveal Ideas from my friends at Alber’s Creative Cakes

Like many people these days, I’m involved in all sorts of Facebook groups.  Some of the groups are community oriented, buy/sale/trade, mommy, couponing, blogging, etc.  If you have a hobby or idea, you can probably find a Facebook group to join which supports you.

A couple of weeks ago, a local mom sought advice on a unique gender reveal ideas.  I read many great ideas and decided they should be shared.

  1. Take a picture of mom and dad both wearing white shirts.  Have dad stand behind mom and put his arms around her belly.  Have mom and dad make a heart with their hands and paint the hands the color of the baby’s gender.  This would be a GREAT black and white photo with only the heart done in color.  Color Effects is a great Android App that allows you to create photos like this.
  2. Mom and Dad can blow bubbles.  Mom can blow pink and dad can blow blue.  Pop the color of the bubble that does not match baby.  This could be done in a series of photos or a short video.
  3. Write the baby’s name across mom’s belly and capture in a photo.
  4. Fill a piñata with gender specific items such as onesies, pacifiers, small toys, socks,  and other stuff you can use later on.  Pink and blue candies can also be added as party favors for the guests.  Have guests take turns trying to break open the piñata.  This is perfect for an outdoor gathering in warmer weather and it helps everyone feel the excitement of revealing the gender of your baby.
  5. Like the idea, but don’t want to fill it with goodies? Create a pull string piñata – it’s a paper lantern with a piece of paper to plug the bottom with a string attached.  The lantern could be filled with colored confetti as the way to revel baby’s gender.  Parents could pull the string or siblings could pull the string.  More than one sibling?  Add more than one string.  This will help the older siblings feel more involved and connected to the  new baby.
  6. Inflate a pink balloon and a blue balloon.  Fill both of the balloons with confetti matching the baby’s gender.  Pop one or both balloons.  If one balloon is popped, pop the one which doesn’t match the baby’s gender.  Confetti matching the baby’s gender will surprise onlookers.
  7. Want to surprise mom and dad, too?  During the ultrasound, ask your doctor to write down the baby’s gender instead of telling you.  Ask the doctor to seal the paper in an envelope.  Give the envelope to a bakery or a friend.  Have a cake made with the inside of the cake baked to reveal the baby’s gender.
