  1. yes we carve pumpkins. Halloween is my favorite holiday. I’ve seen so many awesome pumpkins this year, it’s hard to pick a favorite. Wish I was as talented as some people.

we love to care scary pumpkins

We used to carve pumpkins when we lived in Kentucky, but since we’ve moved to Arkansas we have found that they rot to fast if they are carved. (It is still very warm here in October) so now we use permanent markers to decorate them

I have been dying to try a cake pop maker! They are delicious and I would love to make them myself!

  5. brenda hogue says

No I have never tried a popcorn ball actually but would like to.

when baking cakes I swap out the oil for applesauce. Makes for a very moist cake!

  7. We have carved pumpkins in the past we aren’t going to this year though there’s no room! A couple of years ago my husband, daughter, and I all carved a pumpkin each hubby did a werewolf head that was amazing. I think those are the most memorable jack-o-lanterns I’ve ever seen 🙂

  8. I love the Frankenstein cookies you made they are ADORABLE!

  9. We haven’t carved one this year but usually do. While living in England, we carved USA themed pumpkins every year.

  10. I like the haunted gingerbread house. 🙂

  11. All I know about making gingerbread houses is to use the icing as glue. 🙂

  12. My Aunt always made homemade popcorn balls and handed them out.

  13. I’ve substituted olive oil, coconut oil, applesauce, or even apple butter for vegetable oil in recipes.

  14. We always carved pumpkins as a kid, but I haven’t carved many in recent years since I don’t have kids. I should get back to it though, because it really is fun and relaxing. The most memorable pumpkin carving I’ve had was a thinner pumpkin where I tried to carve intricate teeth on the jack-o-lantern. A few days after being outside the face weakened and caved in giving it a much creepier look.

  15. My favorite treat featured and the one I want to make the most is the cake pops. I have an unhealthy love for those things. It’s my favorite because who doesn’t love cake…but I really like the creamy texture of cake pops.

  16. I’ve never baked a gingerbread house, but I have assembled a kit. When doing a kit, it’s important not to overload the house. My biggest baking tip, is read the recipe first and be super careful with substitutions. I love baking because it’s chemistry that I can appreciate. The smallest changes can make big differences in the product outcome.

  17. The most often substitute in my baking is buttermilk, oil and sugars. I usually don’t have buttermilk on hand, so a bit of vinegar or lemon juice in regular milk makes a great substitution. Just use about a teaspoon and let it sit for 5 min.

When I find myself using a recipe that has large amounts of oil (like 1 cup) I’ll cut that in half and use half applesauce. I usually only do this in cake recipes where I know that the structure of the recipe wont be compromised.

I also substitute sugar when I feel that there is too much. I had a cake recipe that called for 2 cups of sugar. I scaled it back and used some brown sugar to give it extra “oomph” and richness. Since brown sugar has molasses in it, it makes things a bit sweeter. I also like to substitute some sugar with splenda or stevia when I feel the recipe can handle it. One place I never recommend altering sugar types or amounts is in candy making! Sugar is super important when it comes to candy.

  18. We carve pumpkins every year. The most memorable was this year when my son picked out his first pattern to carve (Wreck it Ralph). and he pulled all the seeds and slime out all by him self for the first time
