Triple Berry Smoothie – A Blast of Vitamin A & C
Have you noticed the strawberry theme that keeps showing up in so many of my recipes lately? I’ve always loved them, so with them being plentiful and low priced, I eat a couple of quarts each week. Lately, I’ve been paying $1.99 a quart, so I’m finding as many ways to eat and use them as possible. I suppose these three berries are my favorites. I also grow them, but haven’t even harvested a pint this summer. One morning, I did find whole handful of ripe blueberries. When I went back that afternoon to pick them they were gone! I have two whole blackberries on my vines and have picked about six strawberries, so I think I’ll just have to keep buying them and making a salad or a Triple Berry Smoothie with them.
Even with the fabulous, fresh fruits and vegetables of summer, I look for ways to boost my health and nutrition with little effort. I’ve learned that using powdered supplements in my smoothies is an easy way to do it. MegaFood recently sent me a variety of supplements with smoothie recipes. This recipe uses the MegaFood Daily Purify, which features Dandelion, Schisandra Berry, and Artichoke Leaf.
What are the benefits of MegaFood Daily Purify?
- Promotes the body’s natural detoxification process.
- Supports liver health and function
- Helps maintain a radiant and clear complexion
I’ve looked into various detox and cleanses, but with my allergies I haven’t been able to try them. There seems to be nothing in the MegaFood Daily Purify which I seem to be allergic to. My poor liver gets a heck of a work out with all of my medications I take due to the Multiple Sclerosis and Diabetes. In addition to the medication issues, I’m overweight and have been diagnosed with a “fatty liver,” I thought the Purify would be a great way to help support my liver health. If you don’t get the connection with the medications and the liver, the liver has to filter all of the medications you take. Detoxing my liver may help my overall well being. Doesn’t everyone want a clear complexion? I’m 42 and still trying to achieve a clear face.
The MegaFood Daily Purify “Honey Berry Buzz Smoothie” is the original recipe and is slightly different than mine. Their recipe called for raspberries and I used blackberries. They also used 2 tsp fresh lemon juice and 1 cup almond or coconut milk. I made two batches of my Triple Berry Smoothie . I used the lemon juice and orange juice in place of the nut milk. However, I also added a container of Greek yogurt. I attempted, but couldn’t drink an entire glass of the first batch. I ended up throwing it out, because I disliked it so much. When I remade the second batch, I used the recipe below. It went down smoothly without the Greek yogurt.
I think I’m going to completely leave out the honey when I make my next batch. While I ordinarily like honey I don’t ordinarily add any type of sweetener to my smoothies. In my opinion, it overpowers the natural sweetness in the Triple Berry Smoothie.
- ALL measurements are approximate
- ½ cup Strawberries
- ½ cup Blueberries
- ½ cup Blackberries
- 1 tbsp Honey
- 1 cup Orange Juice
- 1 cup Crushed Ice (Crushed is easier on the Blender Blades)
- 1 scoops MegaFood Daily Purify
- Add strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, honey, and Daily Purify to the smoothie or blender pitcher. Top with crushed ice.
- Add orange juice, enough to cover the fruit.
- Power the blender on and mix all the summer goodness together! If the blender stops working with the power button on, it's a sign that the smoothie is too frozen and needs more liquid. Add more OJ or a little water. More liquid or ice can be added until the desired consistency is reached.
