Day 2 of our Spring Break Road Trip was a long day. It took us from from Frankfort, Kentucky to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, and we finally laid our tired bodies down to sleep at the Mountain Lodge in Flat Rock, North Carolina.
I’m normally a Holiday Inn Express or Bust sort of person, but I decided to take a chance on the fabulous looking Mountain Lodge offered by Groupon. I had never purchased anything from Groupon before, but I some Groupon credit and decided that I had nothing to lose.
Without a doubt, it was a win-win situation all the way around! We booked a luxurious studio suite for $79 that normally sold for $129. I do believe that our studio suite was bigger than my first apartment! It had all of the same options, but was so much nicer.
All of the suites at The Mountain Lodge include: recliner, color cable TV with extra stations, DVD player, free local calls, electronic door locks, air conditioning, coffee maker, hairdryer, alarm clock/radio, iron and board, microwave and mini fridge. There was also two burner, built-in hotplate stove top. Calling the fridge mini is such an understatement though! It was larger and nicer than the refrigerator I had when I lived in a rental basement apartment!
The beds were so comfortable and we were so tired that we slept through breakfast and had to call down for a late checkout. Our request was cheerfully granted with zero hesitation.
Upon checking out, we were encouraged to explore more of the facility since we had arrived late the night before. We peeked into the conference room and realized that we had spent the night at a small conference center. The front desk clerk told us about the llama conference that was hosted at Mountain Lodge the week before. The people stayed inside and the llamas stayed outside.
