Haunted House Halloween Party, Halloween Cupcake Stand, Cake Pops, & Frankenstein CookiesHalloween Cupcake Stand, Cake Pops, & Frankenstein Cookies

Thanks to Good Cook, I received a whole box of goodies to well stock a Halloween Party.  While we’re not big on the Halloween thing around our house, but we love experimenting with new products and trying new techniques.  This set of goodies was SO MUCH fun!  The older I get, the more I realize how much I really like to decorate baked goods.  I’m sure that you can’t tell though by the looks of this picture.

With this batch of goodies, I started with the cupcakes after I finished the Haunted Cupcake Display.  The display stand was a breeze to put together.  I had it out of the package and completely assembled in less than five minutes.  Made out of corrugated cardboard, it’s very stable and colorful.  I wish there was a little more room between the shelves.  Since I used an icing bag and decorative tip, my icing was piled a bit high on the cupcakes.  I added toppings to most of them, so it made them even taller and trickier.  It would be nice if it were made out of corrugated plastic so that it could be wiped down and saved from year to year.

The cupcakes were baked in Orange and Black Cupcake Paper Cups also from the Sweet Creations division of Good Cook.  The bottom of cup has the same design as the top of the Haunted Cupcake Display.  Coordinating pieces items get my vote every time!  As you may be able to see from the cupcakes, I alternated decorative toppings on them frequently.  My secret to keep it from costing a fortune?  Stock up on the decorating supplies, like the candy sprinkles, after the holiday.  Store in a cool, dry place and they should last for several years.  Other toppings were candies that I purchased at Dollar Tree.  There’s no need to spend a lot of money to have cute cupcakes!

The little creature heads in front of the graveyard and haunted house were intended to be cake pops.  I did use the Halloween Cake Pop Press to form them, but stuck them to graham crackers instead.  I really like how they balanced the whole scene out on the crackers.  Again, I used my leftovers to create them.  My daughter overfilled the cupcake cups and they had wide, overflowing tops.  I trimmed those off and used a couple of the cupcakes to mix with the leftover orange frosting.  I’m pretty sure that I used too much frosting, but my daughter ate them and loved them.  The white color was simply spooned royal icing that had been thinned down with water.   They are a bit creepy looking, but I suppose that’s part of the point of  Halloween isn’t it?

Even the Ghost Story Treat Bags are distributed by Sweet Treats.  They’re great for baked goods, popcorn balls, or even bagging up store bought candy to pass out to the little ghouls and goblins.  Baked goods and popcorn balls stayed fresh in mine for a couple of weeks!

Notice the Frankenstein cookies?  They were my absolute favorite of all of the Halloween goodies I made.   I used the leftover dough from the Haunted Halloween House to cut out the cookies.  Make sure to click over there for lots of tips and tricks for rolling dough if you’ve never done that before.  The green frosting was even the leftover royal icing that I had used to put the house together, I just added green dye to it.  The hair was dark red cherry licorice strings and the neck stitches were green apple licorice strings.  Neither were cut to precise measurements, some were even torn and placed where they looked right.  I did skimp on the eyes though.  Instead of splurging for the sugared googly eye candies, I bought a huge package of plastic googly eyes.  Of course, I don’t plan to feed them to little kids and older kids could read a cautionary tag accompanying the cookies.  I did flip one upside down and attempt to decorate it as Shrek, but was a little too embarrassed to post that picture.  With a little more effort, I’m sure I could pull it off though.

  1. I know what you mean I love to bake and decorate especially when I have really fun ideas but I am not that good at the decorating part. Still I always have a sense of achievement and am proud of my accomplishment even if no one else can tell what its supposed to be.
