A DIY Ceiling Fan Makeover With a Dot of Color

Ingredients
  • Old, Ugly Ceiling Fan
  • Paint Brushes
  • Spray Paint (optional)
  • Paint Sampler Bottles or Leftovers
  • Pencil Erasers (unused) in Various Sizes
  • New Ceiling Fan Globe(s)
Instructions
  1. This fun project was started the previous summer when Miss JoJo took the fan blades down so that we could paint the ceiling. While the blades were down, she used a paint tester bottle that matched her bedroom walls and painted the motor cover on the ceiling fan. The brownish color was painted over with Glidden Palest Lavendar. The built-in brush was ideal to paint the base of the ceiling fan because of the small size.
  2. This was a really inexpensive project. We used paints and materials we already had around the house. The paints were acrylic paints, so we used paper plates as a paint palette. Using paper plates made clean up a breeze. The dots turned out perfectly. The tool? An eraser on the end of a brand new pencil. Miss JoJo had that bright idea and it worked out really well.
  3. Miss JoJo and I worked really well on this project. She painted the dots onto the blades, in no particular pattern. Using a pattern can make projects like this look too deliberate.
  4. After Miss JoJo finished the dots, I painted the edges with a color that matched the dots. It was quite bold, but it really gave the ceiling fan the pop that makes it stand out.
  5. We loved how the colors of the ceiling fan coordinated with the colors in her bed spread? Not all of the colors were not an exact match, but they were close enough to look fabulous!
  6. The polka dots were a theme that we carried through out the room. It was a great way to incorporate other decorative touches and to help tie them all together.
  7. This picture shows best how the color on the wall matched the color on the base of the ceiling fan. It also shows the polka dots and how they are featured without being overwhelming in a small bedroom.
  8. We also put a new globe up. Again, we visited our favorite thrift shop and found a clear, open-bottomed glass globe. It makes a HUGE difference in how much brighter the light was in the room after the transformation.
