Potty Training and BedwettingI haven’t shown off the little one lately, it’s a little harder to do since she goes to day care now. But, we still demand time with our girl whenever our schedules work out. At all of 20 months old, she’s becoming such a big girl and going potty. Can’t you tell how proud she is of her Pull-Ups? Unlike some kids learning to potty train, she runs to the bathroom when you ask her if she needs to go potty.

When I was doing the Save Time and Money With Wearever Underwear review, something familiar on their site caught my eye. I found a mattress pad protector on their site that was identical to one that I had used on my daughter’s crib, toddler bed, and then twin mattress as she went through all of the “little” stages starting fifteen years ago until we had no more accidents. Ours came to us in a box of hand me downs. Now, I know exactly where they can be found and why parents should make a minimal investment in one or two of these. I would even suggest the Wearever Mattress Pad with Wings as a gift for anyone expecting. It’s one product that can be used well past the baby days. Mine was in such great shape when we no longer needed it that I passed it along to another friend.

Good Nights Disposable Bed Mats

At $19.99, the Wearever Mattress Pad with Wings is much more economical than the disposable mattress protectors marketed for children with bed wetting problems. They averages out to about $1/night if a new protector is used each night, as indicated by most of the reviews I read. Just two of the bedding products available from Wearever would cost roughly the same price as a month’s supply of the disposable mattress protectors. Based upon the reviews that I read, parents are pleased with the absorbency provided by the disposable mattress pads. However, they seem to be a nightmare to remove from sheets. No matter what size mattress used, there is absolutely NO issue with the removal of any of the Wearever Bed Pads. Simply untuck the wings, remove, launder, and replace. If a second Wearever Bed Pad is available, the pad could be changed before the user even has a chance to change clothes.

Mattress Pad with WingsAs a product feature, the disposable mattress protectors listed “Not recommended for use with children under 3 years old.” Further in the description, I found “the Disposable Bed Mats help potty-trained children ages four and up manage bedwetting.” This concerns me in regards to the materials used in the disposables. After growing concerned about the materials used in the disposables, I read the product descriptions for all of the Wearever Bed Pads. Much to my relief, there were NO warnings. The Wearever description is summarized as follows: “The Unique-Dri™ inner core and IBEX Cotton Polyester blend incontinence pads are washable and reusable for long lasting lifetime use.

After reading more reviews I found more and more disturbing information from parents who had used the disposable mattress protectors. Most reported that the pads could rarely be used for more than one day, whether they were soiled or not. The adhesive is only located on the four corners and users reported this allowing the pad to wad up and roll up. Others reported that the pads had a tendency to shred simply from their child’s movement. A few also reported spillage of the gel-like substance used to absorb wetness and what a mess this gel is to clean up. I can happily report that NONE of these are an issue with the Wearever Mattress Pad with Wings!

If the Wearever Mattress Pad with Wings is used on a crib size mattress, it can be used across the mattress, or it can be stretched from end to end. For the little ones, it can be used under the sheet as a regular mattress pad or on top of the sheet if your little one leaks through diapers at night. Don’t tell the teenager, but click to find out what it looks like on a twin size bed! 😉
