Sweeney’s Solar Sonic Spike

Sweeney’s Solar Sonic Spike PRO Review & Giveaway

Have you ever heard the expression not make a mountain out of a mole hill?  Just in case you haven’t ever seen them, the picture above shows mole hills.  While mole hills are rather short and low to the ground, they can be problematic.  When the moles burrow beneath the surface, the soil is pushed to the top, creating the mole hills.  While it is a little helpful in aerating the soil or planting seeds, it’s very dangerous for the humans.

The soil from the mole hills is very soft and crumbly.  If you walk across the top of the hole hill, you’re likely to fall into the trough below the surface.  This has the potential for spraining ankles or worse.  With balance issues like mine, I don’t need the excess danger of falling in a mole hole.

Although one Sweeney’s Solar Sonic Spike was sent to me for review, it hasn’t really been the time of year for the moles to be a problem in my yard.  The moles tend to be a problem for my yard in the spring and late fall when the ground is the wettest and softest.  We expect rain in the coming days, this will make the ground soft enough for the spike to easily be inserted.  I have used other Sweeney’s products for mole and gopher repellents over the years and have been impressed with the results.  This leave me with high expectations for the new Sweeney’s Solar Sonic Spike.

I put the spike out at the corner of the house with the most sun and give it a shot.  The direction sheet included with my Sweeney’s Solar Sonic Spike PRO wass incorrect.  It stated to insert two AAA rechargeable batteries into the unit.  This was incorrect, it actually required three.  No directions were given about inserting the batteries with the + or – side of the battery facing up.  This was very confusing.  The directions also stated that the unit should start lightly buzzing or humming when the batteries are inserted.  My batteries must be in dire need of recharging, because they have done nothing so far.  The unit is now outside awaiting sunlight to determine whether or not the included batteries will charge or not.

UPDATE:  After a few hours in the sun, my Sweeney’s Solar Sonic Spike is humming and buzzing every 30 seconds or so.  The sound is something like a weedeater cord hitting a cyclone fence.  The sound alone ought to help drive the little boogers away!  Most of my neighbors have outside dogs.  I have none.  The sound may explain why I end up with all of the gophers and moles and they have none!  Hopefully, they are a thing of the past!

How does it work?

Most underground animals are virtually blind, but nature has compensated nicely by giving them an acute sense of hearing and extreme sensitivity to ground vibrations. The Sweeney’s Solar Sonic Spike PRO cunningly exploits that sensitivity by producing a penetrating sonic sound and vibration every 30 seconds using Hyperpulse Technology. While the sonic pulses from the mole and gopher repeller don’t harm borrowing animals, the high pitched sound annoys the heck out of them and sends them scurrying away in a hurry.

Long-Lasting, Economical Protection from Burrowing Animals
If you have a large area to protect from underground enemies, don’t sweat it. Each cost-effective Solar Sonic Spike PRO provides a whopping 13,500 square feet (1/3 acre) of coverage. That’s a whole lot of bang for your buck.  This is almost exactly the size of my yard.  I can’t wait to find out how well it works!

Rain or shine, the Sweeney’s Solar Sonic Spike PRO works around the clock to protect your lawn and garden from unwanted visitors. When fully charged by the sun, the maintenance-free solar powered sonic spike provides up to four days of uninterrupted power. So, when bad weather moves in (which it inevitably will) you can rest easy knowing your sonic spike is still hard at work repelling moles, gophers and other burrowing animals from your yard.

Built to last, the solar panel is protected from the elements in a watertight plastic housing with a unique mow-over design. The sonic mole spike, made from corrosion resistant aluminum, guarantees you will enjoy years of rodent-free gardening.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
