St Patrick’s Day Cinnamon Rolls

After creating the Valentine’s Day Cinnamon Rolls, I was motivated to create additional holiday themed cinnamon rolls.  With the Valentine’s Day Cinnamon Rolls, I was told that some brands of refrigerator cinnamon rolls couldn’t be unrolled as my directions called for.  So, I bought the Pillsbury brand ($0.40 off 2 Pillsbury or Grands Sweet Rolls) to challenge myself, since I knew this brand couldn’t be unrolled.  Game on!

If you know MS Do, you know she loves challenges, and usually overcomes the challenges quite well.  It didn’t take long to overcome the challenge.  A little shaping with my hands and my favorite paring knife worked out quite nicely.  Game over, MS Do wins again.  She had successfully created her first ever St Patrick’s Day Cinnamon Rolls!

Whether you’re Irish or just have fun with St. Patty’s Day, I’m sure these St Patrick’s Day Cinnamon Rolls are sure to be a hit with those share them with.

***NOTE*** If you buy cinnamon rolls that unroll into strips, check out the Valentine’s Day Cinnamon Rolls.   If you try to create the St. Patrick’s Day Cinnamon Rolls with the strip type of cinnamon rolls, you may not end up with results like these.

Turn a simple can of refrigerated cinnamon rolls into unbelievable St. Patrick's Cinnamon Rolls they'll never forget!
Ingredients
  • Refrigerated Cinnamon Rolls (These were Pillsbury brand)
  • Green Food Dye (Optional)
  • Paring Knife
  • Pizza Stone (optional)
Instructions
  1. Preheat the oven to the temperature given on the roll of cinnamon rolls.
  2. Open the can of cinnamon rolls. Set the glaze aside.
  3. Separate the cinnamon rolls into groups of threes. Place the groups of cinnamon rolls into a layout similar to a clover leaf, one on top with two at the bottom.
  4. Cut a small V notch into the the outermost edge of each cinnamon roll.
  5. Cut four notches into the single remaining cinnamon roll at the north, south, east, and west positions.
  6. Set aside all notches to use later.
  7. Use your hands to shape the cut edges of the cinnamon roll into more of a heart top.
  8. Use the cut out notches to create a stem for each cinnamon roll clover.
  9. Bake according to the directions. The cinnamon rolls may need to cook slightly longer since they are pushed together in the center.
  10. (OPTIONAL) While the cinnamon rolls are baking, add a drop or two of food color into the icing.
  11. Blend thoroughly. A baby spoon is the perfect size for the icing container and for scooping the icing out later.
  12. Bake according to the directions on the can. Mine baked at 400* for about 15 minutes.Allow the cinnamon rolls to cool for about five minutes before icing. This will allow the icing to remain on top of the cinnamon rolls instead of completely melting down and ending up on the stone (or baking sheet). The cinnamon rolls normally take about 15 minutes to bake. These were ready to eat in about 25 minutes.
