Pumpkin Carving

Pumpkin carving is one of those things that was never ever done at my house when I was a kid.  It wasn’t something my parents objected to, it was just something we didn’t do.  However, when my daughter was much younger, I tried to be the good mommy and carve pumpkins with her.  Umm, yeah, right.  She got over that as soon as she started pulling the guts out of the pumpkins.  She was about eight then and I’ve not been able to convince her to try it again.

She still wasn’t interested this year when I bought a tiny little pumpkin to try out the 5 Pc. Pumpkin Carving Kit that I received as a Good Cook Kitchen Expert.  So, instead, I took the little pumpkin over to our little pumpkin’s house and carved it with her.  Like Miss Jogi, CC was less than interested in touching the inside of the pumpkin.  She did want to taste it though.  After licking a seed, she got over that, too!

CC picked a flower from a Fiora stencil (click to download) kit that I had received the day before.  Even though there were multiple stencils that came with the Good Cook Carving Kit, they weren’t all cute and girly.  They were cute, just not what we were going for though. Then we were busy carving our pumpkin.

Pumpkin Carving

  1. We taped the template we chose to the pumpkin, used the tool that looked like a mini ice pick to make holes.
  2. The little saw blade knives worked well going into the holes, but it was pretty rough.
  3. Cut the top off the pumpkin.  Should have done that earlier, but it still worked out.
  4. Used the scraper spoon to remove the seeds and stringy stuff from the inside.  Not sure if we scraped enough out, but we decided it was good.  😉
  5. Went back to poking holes as needed and cutting through the pumpkin with the little saw.  Carve the Pumpkin
  6. After a few minutes, the pumpkin was carved and the flower was ready to remove.
  7. Pushed the flower out from the inside.
  8. Rinsed it, because it had strings and junk all over.
  9. Dried it off and out.
  10. Inserted the battery operated candle.
  11. Pumpkin was done!

  1. My daughters pumpkins from childhood are the most memorable, of course! However, we also didn’t do much pumpkin carving, just not that interested. We often just let the girls draw on the front of them with markers, lol

Yes we carve pumpkins and the most memorable ones are the ones that my 2 little boys made with there dad. One was a headless horseman and the other was a hunted house.

  3. Yes we carve pumpkins, though it took a long time for me to have enough faith in myself to do it, cause I had a really bad experience carving pumpkins as a kid. Most amazing we each did a pumpkin and they were all Nightmare Before Christmas theme.

  4. Of course we carve pumpkins…every year we do several. This year we have done everything from out family name to a castle, the pumpkin from the Addam’s Family, a witch, a goofy pumpkin face, and one that is puking. Carving pumpkins is a blast…as is, eating the pumpkin seeds!

  5. Yes, our family most definitely carves pumpkins! 🙂 We have a combined household of ten children. The most memorable carved pumpkin I have ever seen was the one with bats that my stepsons carved with their mom. I will never forget the smiles on everyone’s faces as they carved that pumpkin!

Yes we carve pumpkins every year. I remember the first time my girls saw their pumpkins lit up for the first time.. Then we love to roast the seeds to enjoy later.

Yes we carve pumpkins every year. My boys love to carve them. Most memorable one was when they attempted to cut out a spider. It didn’t look like a spider but it was special because they carved it together.

  9. Mary Switzer says

When we do pumpkins, we use markers so I can peel the pumpkin for cooking.

  10. Beth Rachau says
