Academic Planner

I’m a retired elementary teacher. For years, I worked hard to teach organizational skills to my students. But, why, oh why didn’t any of these lessons take on my own child? It certainly wasn’t for my lack of trying!

My daughter finished her junior year with her highest grades ever, even after a very personally trying year.
Even though her classes for her senior year aren’t overly taxing, she still needs to work on organization.  She is working a part time job, has a boyfriend, and plans to become involved in a couple of clubs this year.  Yes, if we don’t get her organized from the start of this year, it will be a losing battle before the fight ever begins!

Order Out of Chaos sent us a couple of their  fantastic Academic Planners to help keep us both organized this school year.  Miss Jogi will use hers to keep her organized for school and work.  I plan to use mine to keep up with Miss Jogi’s work schedule and the blog.  I even got a hold of hers and did a few cutesie things here and there before I gave it to her.  Needless to say, she was a little excited about it.

Even though these are marketed as Academic Planners, I can easily see using it as a family planner.  It would be especially helpful for those with large families.  Instead of listing subjects or classes down the left hand side of the planner, you could list family members instead.

Features of the Order Out of Chaos Academic Planner

  • An index page at the front of the planner for students to record their class subjects (7 subject boxes) only once for the entire year.
  • Weekly planner pages line up with the subject schedule.
  • Days of the week are listed horizontally across the top of the planner, helping to to develop time management skills.
  • After-school activities and weekend spaces, allow students to PLAN their entire weekly workload.
  • Grid system shows scheduled and available blocks of time, facilitating weekly time management and planning strategies.
  • Larger size pages (7” x 11” interior pages) allow for more room to write assignments and appointments.
  • Handy vinyl back pocket holds notes, slips and other necessary papers.  My daughter loves the built in pocket to keep up with those forms to turn in to the school.
  • Three-hole punching allows for easy placement in binders.  I required my students to clip their planners in their binders or in the front of their expandable files.  Routine does build organizational skills.
  • Durable vinyl covers and sturdy spiral binding stands up to students’ school bags and lockers.  Most school colors are available.
  • Based on a school calendar (August to July).
