Good Cook is a brand that I recently became affiliated with as a recipe blogger.  As usual, you won’t see MS Do pushing you to buy anything, but you will continue seeing me review products, give my honest opinions, and share special codes that will allow you to purchase Good Cook merchandise at discounted prices.  Because of this new collaboration with the Good Cook company, I am also able to offer more giveaways specifically geared for the Good Cook in all of us!

In a recent review package, several other Good Cook Kitchen Experts and I received a citrus keepers challenge.  Our representative at Good Cook challenged us to come up with crafty and creative ways to use our Good Cook Citrus Keepers.

This first attempt required almost no effort.  I drilled a whole in the top of the Citrus, stuck a straw in, and voila!  A Good Cook Citrus Keeper Sipper was born!  Liv looked like she was miserable, too, don’t you think?  They make fabulous cupcake holders as well.  The one on the left was dropped directly into the bottom.  The one on the right was put in a toy muffin holder that Liv like to “complain” about there not being a real cupcake in.  Surprise!  We put a real cupcake in it for her today!  Something like a baby food jar lid or other small, nondangerous item could be placed in the bottom to raise the cupcake up.

Initially, I was stumped.  I thought about making a topiary, a wreath, opening them up, drilling holes in them, and about ten thousand other things.  I decided that I wasn’t going to really put a ton of effort into this project and I certainly wasn’t going to put a lot of money into it either.

After a trip to Walmart to visit the clearance aisle and to Dollar Tree, I spent around $5.  I had found all of the items that I needed to pull together the “look” I wanted and I will be able to use everything for other decorating and craft projects.  Of course, I used things I already had around the house as well.  What do you think of the different ways I came up with to use my spare Citrus keepers?

Much to my dear daughter’s surprise, she had no idea that her dear old mom had actually taken part in table decorating contests.  This was way back in the days of high school as part of our Future Teachers of America (FTA) program.  What FTA and table decorating had to do with one another I’ve never figured out though.

Of all the things I created, my favorite is the centerpiece with the large candle in the middle.  I thought it was really pretty in the top left picture with the lights on.  The center picture didn’t photograph very well.  It’s a large gallon size glass jar with a scalloped type feature to the glass.  It was okay looking, but very plain looking in comparison to my original design. However, I fell in love with the candle centerpiece when I turned the lights off.  That’s the picture on the right.  I thought it would be a really cute centerpiece for a gathering outside and 100% safe when little ones are involved.

All of the candles were LED battery operated.  The white glowing light is a set of LED Dragonflies.  The green glowing light is a set of green leaves.  Inside the Citruss were white tealights that I wrapped with green masking tape.  I set them on top of small baby food jars and packed the shimmering flat marble stones around them.  I love how they glowed inside the Citrus Keeper.

With a little creativity, household items, and some time on our hands most of us can come up with some great home decor if we put our minds to it.  Have you ever created a fun new something that would have otherwise gone to waste?  If you have pictures, let me know.  I’d love to share them with others!
