One of my favorite things about summer is fruit.  Fruit was considered a dessert at my house when I was growing up.  Cake, pie, and other baked goodies were for special occasions, like birthdays and company.

Around the time I was diagnosed with MS, I began battling crippling migraines.  The kind of migraines that would put me in bed for days with medical grade ice packs wrapped around my head.  I also moved around that time and a friend of mine bought me a smoothie machine as a housewarming present.  He told me that the cold, nutrient packed smoothies would be good for my migraines.  Thus began my journey of making my own smoothies.

I had no idea what I was doing, so I just threw my favorite fruit, strawberries,  into the machine with some ice and gave it a whirl.  Then I realized why their were markings on the side smoothie pitcher.  It HAD to have liquid in it to actually blend things together.  I didn’t want to add anything sugary to the mix, I wanted as natural as possible, so I added a couple of teaspoons of frozen orange and water.  I pushed the button and the machine worked this time.  The result?  My first Strawberry Smoothie.

That was many years and experiments ago.  I’ve used frozen fruits, fresh fruits, frozen juices, drink mixes.  You name it, I’ve probably tried it.  My latest experiment is to include powdered supplements in my Berrylicious Strawberry Smoothie Blast.  This week’s supplement is Organic Matcha- Green Tea Powder by Kiss Me Organics.  I’ve never been a fan of green tea, but thought I would give it a try in my Strawberry Smoothie.  It was a nice addition, the taste was very subtle and I don’t mind the added benefits.  Want to learn more?  Click the link above to read more about it.

  5. Power the blender on and mix all the summer goodness together! If the blender stops working with the power button on, it's a sign that the smoothie is too frozen and needs more liquid. Add more OJ or a little water. More liquid or ice can be added until the desired consistency is reached.
