AYL Starlight LED Lantern

As a kid in the 70s, we all seemed to have those kerosene or propane lanterns around, whether we were camping or had them for emergency lighting.  I clearly remember the fight of my parents trying to put those little net style wick mantles in place.  Gone are the 70s and so are most of those old-fashioned lanterns, made of metal and glass.  They were hot and dangerous, whether you used them while camping or in your home.

On your next camping trip,  you can leave the old-fashioned green lantern at home.  Instead, take the modern AYL Starlight LED LanternLike it’s old-fashioned counterpart, the AYL Starlight LED Lantern has a green body with a clear globe.  However, that’s about where the similarities end and the differences begin.

AYL Starlight LED Lantern

The AYL Starlight LED Lantern is operated using three D size batteries, there’s no more dangerous kerosene, gasoline, or specialty fuel is needed for camp lighting or emergency lighting.  It has a large metal handle on the top, which collapses down around the LED Lantern body.  The lantern handle is shaped for comfortable carrying or for use as a hanger.  There is also a small, built-in plastic hook in the base, which can also be used to hang the lantern upside down.

Of course, the AYL Starlight LED Lantern can be sat directly on the rubber base.  The same rubber material is wrapped around the body of the lantern.  It’s spread out in a small, grip-like pattern.  This makes it especially easy to grip the body of the lantern to hold while carrying it.  I have pretty small hands and it’s very comfortable to carry, even in my small hands.

The AYL Starlight LED Lantern provides plenty of light, whether it’s hung from the top, bottom, or sitting on its base.  When it’s sitting on it’s base or hanging, the light seems to be directed more upward.  If you want the light to be directed downward or outward, I suggest hanging the LED Lantern upside down.  For extended use, you may want to remove the globe to keep the LED bulb from overheating and avoid any potentially related problems.

To help light up those dark nights, whether inside or out, the AYL Starlight LED Lantern has three different lighting modes.  When it is first turned on, it’s on low.  Press the power button again for high, and a third time for a flashing effect.  There’s also a little flashing light just above the on/off switch.  It doesn’t drain the battery, even though it flashes every four seconds to help you find it in the dark.

The only other thing I’d like to see different about the AYL Starlight LED Lantern is the ability to use regular or rechargeable D size batteries with a built-in battery charger.
