After my first major MS attack left me unable to walk.  The attack actually left me weakened from the neck down.  It often took me an hour to eat a meal because I grew tired from the simple task of eating.  Cutting something like steak was so strenuous that it wasn’t worth the effort.  Thankfully, many dear friends helped my daughter and I get through that time to literally and physically get me back on my feet.

My doctors sent me to physical therapy to help rebuild my strength, balance, and endurance for things like walking and breathing at the same time.  Physical therapy was hard work.  Just getting ready to go was hard work!  Once I arrived, I had to do all kinds of things like get up and down from chairs without falling into the chair or pushing up on something to get out of the chair.  My walker and I did laps around the track.  The exercise ball became a torture ball!  Then the REAL FUN began, TheraBand was introduced to the party!

Resistance Loop Bands

If you’re unfamiliar with TheraBand, it’s best described as oversized, latex strips similar to something like a rubber band.  However, it’s just a flat piece of latex that’s flat, not looped like a rubber band.  I was given all kinds of great exercises to do with this floppy strip of soft, stretchy stuff.  Can you tell how excited I was?    Tie it in a knot and it will be fine, tie it to your footboard of your bed, a solid piece of furniture, etc. and do these exercises.  Yep, I was excited to do these exercises, even more so when the TheraBand slipped its knot and popped me in the eye or head (more than once).

Eventually, my ability to walk returned, but my strength has never been the same.  I was dismissed from physical therapy once my insurance ran out.  So, I must have been better, right?  Wrong!  My hips continued with the weakness.  When I sat with my feet up in my recliner, my knees fell apart.  I complained about this to the physical therapist, when I still had coverage, but it was never addressed.  I asked if we could tie some of that latex band together to keep my knees together.  I was told to wait to see if it would improve over time.  I’ve waited for the improvement since 2008.

When I saw the Alpine Lakes Gear Loop Bands available for review on Tomoson, I quickly asked to try them out.  Over Christmas, I was told that my tailbone is the real culprit.  My tailbone rotates and this is the root cause of my weakened hips.  I was excited to get home from our trip to start working with the new bands, to strengthen the muscles from my feet up .

Alpine Lakes Gear Resistance Loop Bands

The Alpine Lakes Gear Loop Bands far exceed the bands I had previously worked with.  With the connected loop design, I have sat, watched TV, blogged, and exercised all at the same time.  The continuous loop band hasn’t slipped off my legs or arms, nor have I been popped with them.  Like the bands that must be cut, the Alpine Lakes Gear Loop Bands have graduated resistance levels.  I started out with the green band, which offers the least resistance.  Eventually

From the first time I worked with the bands, I truly felt like I was making some progress.  This is something I never really felt or realized when I worked with the bands from the physical therapist.  Although I’ve only used the bands with my legs, I intend to extend my strength training and regaining with my upper body.

Given my experience of traditional physical therapy bands and Alpine Lakes Gear Loop Bands, loops are THE way to go!

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
